nations (Deut. 10:14f., cf. Exod. 19:4–6). That is, Yahweh was not just “the national God of Israel”—he was God of all nations. This is what Paul saw so clearly (e.g., in Rom. 4). Yahweh had chosen Israel in relation to his purpose for the world, not just for Israel.
